Here I am presenting a very simple project that is within the reach of any spectroscopy enthusiast equipped with a small electronics lab and the necessary skills to work with not too advanced SMD components.



This board has a streamlined circuit design, the cost is negligible, and the performances are excellent.



We can divide the schematic into four blocks: starting from the left, the signal enters an inverting amplifier with 20dB of gain, which allows keeping the gain of the PMT low and consequently its supply voltage as well. The coupling is AC with a high-voltage capacitor that can be directly connected to the anode of the PMT, charging it appropriately with a 1Mohm 1/2W resistor towards HV. Typical BIAS-T circuit for positive HV, nothing special. The second stage is nothing but an RCRC network with a Tau of 22uS performing the actual impulse shaping. The third stage is just an operational amplifier in buffer configuration driving the fourth stage, the USB CODEC.

The gain of the first amplification stage can be adjusted by changing the feedback resistor from 1Mohm. The circuit can be directly plugged into a USB socket, but first make sure to thicken the PCB on the back of the section that acts as a USB plug so that it fits into USB sockets with minimal play. You can glue some pieces of rigid PVC sheet until the desired thickness is reached. Alternatively, you can directly solder a USB cable based on the attached photo.

Ich habe zur Detektion einen Plastikszintillator von Bicron verwendet. Der Nachteil dabei ist natürlich, dass du damit nicht nur Neutronen erfasst sondern auch Gammastrahlung usw.. Also musst du zum Nachweis von Neutronen immer eine Differenzmessung machen. Ich konnte aber einen Anstieg der Zählrate mit Neutronenquelle nachweisen. Habe dafür aber einen sehr starken Alphastrahler + Beryllium benötigt...

In diesem Forum mußt Du nicht nur strahlenfest , sondern auch spannungsfest sein

Das Navi hatte mir heute die Abkürzung über den Palaisplatz vorgeschlagen. Nach dem abbiegen ging der Alarm vom Radiacode los. Ein ganzer Straßenabschnitt mit Schlackesteinen gepflastert. 0,8 Mikrosievert außerhalb des Autos.

na schön, ich werde auch wieder kommen. Das ist immer wieder nett, die Leute hier persönlich kenenzulernen.
